Since last week, the coronavirus (COVID-19) related cases have increased dramatically across the world, and in the united state, there are over 1600 cases, with 50 death tolls, the panic is real, and the truth was finally discovered.
After President Trump declared the national emergency, it rapidly changed the game plan, NBA, NHL, NCAA, all of those big-name sports has canceled their game, many colleges and lots of public/private schools were forced to close for a couple of weeks.
In evidently, many youth competitions were canceled by COVID-19. We just list a few of the big ones.
1. FIRST robotics competition, include FTC, FRC world championship.
It is with deep disappointment that I share an update on the immediate suspension of the current FIRST season and the cancellation of both Championship events. This decision has been made based on guidance from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and state and local health officials, as well as the declaration of states of emergency across many states/countries, the ever-expanding travel restrictions for schools, and in light of developments over the past 24 hours.
2. VEX robotics world championship
VEX Robotics have made the decision to cancel the 2020 VEX Robotics World Championship due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
3. science olympiad
As of 3/14/20, we can confirm that nearly every state has officially canceled all Science Olympiad events; only three events remain.
4. congressional APP challenge
After careful consideration, our team has made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming #HouseOfCode Festival due to concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak.
5. National Mock Trial
With a heavy heart, we write to announce the cancellation of the 2020 National High School Mock Trial Championship tournament, previously scheduled for Evansville, Indiana from May 7–10. The Board and Indiana Host Committee have been monitoring the progress of the now-pandemic COVID-19 virus for the past week, and based on information from local health agencies, we have come to the conclusion that there is no way for us to ensure a tournament that is safe for our students, coaches, judges, and the family and friends who attend every year.
We have reason to believe that most of the youth competition which requires the gathering and competition under the same roof will be canceled, and other competitions that can participate remotely should have no impact.
The virus is temporarily impacting our life, but it will never change our life, we believe those competitions which have been canceled will come back next year.
