New York World MakerFaire is one of the biggest maker event in the world, every year, around September, it host more than 400 maker group and company to demonstrate more than 700 projects and products, at the same time, this two days event, attract more than quarter million of visitors, generate huge cloud, this year, it is 9th annual New York World MakerFaire, and we (Youth Innovation Club) make the commitment to showcase our projects over there.
Let us sort out the numbers as summary.
12students, break into two teams, include the smart home demo project and robot game project. Each team has six members, at smart home demo project, we have Jason Luo, Kevin Wang, Brandon Cao, Tiger Peng, Jason Mei and Joseph Tang, at robot game project, we have Connor Chang, Richard Xu, Dian, Julia, Kevin and Vincent Lin.
8weeks, the team was built around earlier August, we have about 8 weeks to design and build two categories of projects. Count on the summer vacation, it is really not too many time to work on the complex projects.
4meetings (for each team, totally 8 meetings), we have the initial meeting online, and have the in house meeting for last two weeks, it is very challenge to find the common schedule (due to summer vacation), but we split the projects into tasks, and manage the progress very carefully. After combat with numerous challenge, we made it, two days before the event, our projects were ready to go.
2days of intensive demonstration, this past weekend (Sep 22nd & Sep 23rd), our team member take the turn, make the public presentation to hundreds of guests around, they solve the problem, make the creative setting, and well prepare to demonstrate the projects.
1award (MakerFaire Editor’s Choice Award), yes, our team projects win MakerFaire Editor’s Choice Award, it is not the goal what we chase for, but it is the recognition of our hard work. Cheers for our team.
We are the best team, come with the best students, best parents, and of course, we have the best coach. We are looking forward to come back next year, with even better projects and settings, let us do it.
